Jason Akel – certified tennis performance coach, sports hypnotherapist, and anxiety coach for tennis players

Jason Akel is a high performance specialist working privately with competitive tennis players at every level - from juniors navigating their first tournaments to adults who have played for decades and still feel the gap between what they produce in practice and what happens when it counts. He also supports ATP and WTA players.

His work sits at the intersection of nervous system science and competitive sports high performance, drawing from hypnotherapy, NLP, and cognitive behavioral techniques. Everything in MindWhisper comes from direct observation of athletes under pressure - the private side of performance no one else sees from the sideline.

Jason is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (A.C.H.E. #420-087), NLP practitioner, and results mindset coach. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and trained at Randal Churchill's HTI and Denmark's The Hypno Academy. He primarily plays wallyball (look it up), pickleball, padel, and racquetball, and skis.

Unlike sports psychology approaches that focus primarily on mental toughness or positive self-talk, MindWhisper works at the physiological level - where choking, mental blocks, and self-doubt actually originate. When fight-or-flight activation hijacks your tennis nervous system mid-match, no amount of confidence coaching or visualization gets you back. The system addresses the mental game of tennis where it lives: in the body's automatic responses to competitive threat. Players learn specific breathing and between-point protocols, pre-match conditioning routines, and how to recognize the early signals of overthinking before they cascade. The result is a tennis mindset that is genuinely stable under pressure - not performed confidence, but trained access to flow state when it counts most.
Any tennis player who feels a gap between their practice and match performance. The system is designed for juniors (age 11+), high school and college players, tournament competitors, and adult recreational players at any level. It's not the level that matters but the desire to improve and willingness to experiment.
Private sessions use hypnotherapy, NLP, and CBT to identify the exact patterns that appear in your nervous system under play pressure - then change them. Sessions are live, one-on-one, in person or virtually. This is application-only work due to limited availability. They last between 1-2 hours and typically 3-7 sessions. Touring professionals are the same to start and then on a semi-regular cadence of choice.
It's helpful but not required. The 1:1 work is comprehensive and builds its own foundation. That said, the books give you a useful conceptual framework before the private work begins, which tends to accelerate results.
Age 11 or older, at least 4 years of playing experience, ongoing skill development (lessons, team, or coach), and regular play - recreational or competitive. This is not for players looking for an instant fix or for players forced to play by others, like a parent. The player must want relief and to improve even if they don't know how to get there.
